Normally on a President's Day I would put up some wise quotes or something noteworthy of presidential honor. But given the sad state of politics these days I decided to NOT do this. So here is a collection of some really stupid president quotes (from newest to oldest). Yeah, I respect the office, but sometimes our presidents can say dumb things...

Ah, it's Valentine's Day, a day when we send cards and candies and flowers and special wishes to the one we love. But is this type of romantic love Biblical, or are we to be more reserved about our affections? One read through the Song of Solomon (or Song of Songs) easily answers that question. Here are some excerpts from the NIV version of the Bible. Expressing our romantic love to our mate is not only permissible, but encouraged and beneficial...

As we raise children in the Christian faith, a common theme resounds in how we teach them about the love of God and their relationship with Jesus. One of the most popular children's song heard in churches and homes is Jesus Loves Me (this I know for the Bible tells me so). As children, the world can be a scary place, and we work hard to reassure them that they are truly loved.

"Jesus loves the little children." - Bible or Not?

While this popular church phrase is based upon Biblical principles, it is not in the Bible - it's a children's song. Here are the full lyrics to the song, and below is some history about its origins and of course a Bible reference...

Yesterday much of the country spent the evening watching the Super Bowl, and what a game it was. It's interesting the role that faith has played in this NFL season. Yeah, everyone was talking about Tim Tebow (Does God Takes Sides in Football?) but I was surprised to learn that the NY Giant's run to the Super Bowl, and their 'All In' credo, started at a chapel service prior to their Christmas Eve game against the NY Jets. You can read the story about that chapel service and how those team members who were in attendance were challenged and inspired.

Today's post though is not about the Giant's All In credo, it's about Jesus' All In credo...

The subject of today's quote is contentment. While our culture tends to regard honest, hard work as a virtue, is it possible that it's not? Didn't Solomon teach us to consider the ways of the hard-working ant, that we should be wise and not lazy? Today's quote seems to tell us that for all our labor, we will not be satisfied. Or does it?

"All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the soul is not satisfied." - Bible or Not?

As are most things Biblical, today's quote about laboring for our mouths and not being satisfied, is about the heart. We all have to work to earn a living and support ourselves and our families, and God has promised...

The first time I saw Jackie Evancho sing, my reaction was probably the same as the rest of the else's. First, that she was a little angel sent from heaven, and then second, that it could not be real. But she is for real, and once again we can see the hand of God alive in the world. And then we hear the message that young Jackie is delivering with her beautiful voice, and we have to praise God again. Yes, from the mouth of Jackie Evancho praise is perfected, which brings us to today's Bible or Not quote.

"Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise." - Bible or Not?

See the video and full lyrics for "To Believe" by Jackie Evancho. I challenge you to watch the whole video with getting misty-eyed...

Today we observe a day of remembrance for an American icon of freedom and equality - Martin Luther King Jr. The impact MLK had on our country and the world is immeasurable. I pray that as we remember the man, that we remember and live his vision that we would judge a person only by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. He gave his life for that vision, let's make sure it was not in vain.

"If a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

As a preacher, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. knew and taught the Bible. His precepts of equality were born out of the scriptures and our Declaration of Independence that all men and women were created equal endowed by God with the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He believed it, and was even willing to die for it as we see in today's quote.

See Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech and some Bible verses about how we are all the same in God's eyes...

At the beginning of this week we had a post about Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos stunning overtime victory in their playoff game against the Steelers. In light of Tim Tebow passing for 316 yards and 31.6 yards per pass (John 3:16), the provocative question was asked, "Does God Take Sides in a Football Game?". This question stirred a lot of discussion, some people saying yes, others saying no, and others saying that's a stupid question. But there is a much bigger story here that reveals the heart and soul of America.

As the country is captured by what is known as Tebow-mania, the attention on him is not because of his unabashed faith. The Tebow story is what every red-blooded American loves...
